On Saturday February 25th, Benicia High School will host a Parent Workshop sponsored by the Benicia Education Foundation. Darlene Bell-Carson will be the keynote speaker on Planning, Preparing & Paying for College. Breakout sessions will be held at 11 and 12pm to learn more about PowerSchool, Naviance and more. All BUSD parents are invited with an emphasis on grades 8-11. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to attend and learn more about how you can be prepared for your child’s future.
The Benicia Education Foundation (BEF) is excited about the opportunity to focus exclusively on supporting the Benicia schools through educational enrichment and student programs. As we move from funding base needs to enrichment programs we have a whole new world of opportunities ahead of us. Now is your opportunity to support Benicia Schools with a donation or as a volunteer!
The BEF has chosen to focus on College and Career Readiness, working with the Benicia Unified School District to assure that there is A Healthy Path for Every Child! Here are some of the programs we are currently working on:
• Expanding the Creative Wheel Program
• Parent Education and Financial Planning
• Professional Development
• Parent Education Workshops
• Career Exploration
• College Visit Days
• Parent Education workshops
• Mini-grants offered to BUSD teachers and staff.
The Run For Education started in 2008, under the guidance of past BEF board member Maria Sloane, with 200 registered runners and a handful of sponsors. By 2011, under race director Teresa Zabrek, the run grew to over 1100 runners and volunteers with 28 sponsors and the numbers remained steady for the following years. This year, we celebrate 10 years of the BEF Run For Education and fundraising for Benicia schools. There are nine t-shirt designs created by artists, students and teachers and countless community volunteers that have offered their time to make the run successful over the years.. It is a special collaboration of the community, schools and business sponsors that make the run happen every year, a labor of love. Whether you volunteer or run , we hope you choose to celebrate the 10th Anniversary with us on April 23, 2017.

In fact there are lots of people at school who may make a difference for your child every day, teacher, administrator, aide, lunch lady…. Consider making a donation to honor that special educator helping your student make it through the year. With a donation of $20 per teacher we will send your teacher a personalized thank you with an “You’ve been Honored” certificate. To learn more visit the Educator Wall of Honor.

What is b-Cubed?
b-Cubed is a pilot program in collaboration with the Benicia Unified School District (BUSD), The Benicia Education Foundation (BEF), and Benicia businesses with the purpose to raise awareness and support for innovative K-12 classroom projects.
The Purpose of b-Cubed:
•To create opportunities for businesses to support projects that are tangible and meaningful to them.
•To support teachers in implementing innovative projects for their students that they might not otherwise have the opportunity to do.
•To allow teachers to focus on what they do best, rather than spending evenings and week
A special thanks to the following grant makers and business supporters who have supported our school district in 2014-2015. These funded programs will continue to serve hundreds of K-12 students, and we are deeply grateful.
